Michael Okagaki ’78 was many things—a devoted husband and father, a chemist, talented musician, mechanic, and loyal friend. He formed the band Yokohama, California, where his voice resonated with themes of identity and belonging. Michael found his heart’s counterpart in Wendy, marrying in 1989 and embarking on a beautiful adventure that took them to Japan, where he honed his craft as a shakuhachi maker and embraced fatherhood. A passionate collector and meticulous cook, Michael’s life was a blend of science and art. He died on Dec. 18, 2023.
