Mary Helen Bengel Thomas M.A. ’81 was born on Aug. 12, 1948, in Denison, Texas. She was a graduate of Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, and SCU. She spent her life as a therapist in California. She married Reverend Larry Thomas on June 12, 1970. They were married for 45 years and are now reunited again. Mary passed away in Reno, Nevada, on March 20, 2018, in the presence of her daughter and best friends, following hospitalization and surgery due to a fall. She is survived by her daughter, Amanda Rand (Nathan), of Pembroke, Massachusetts. She was a loving “meemaw” to her two grandchildren, Fergus and Wolfgang Rand. She is also survived by her brother, John Bengel (Elsa) of Boston, Massachusetts. Her laugh, spirit, joy and wit will be forever missed.
