Muriel Lynn Brokenshire M.A. ’77 was born on July 5, 1947 and grew up in East San Jose with brothers Michael and Alan and sister Janice (Janelle). She attended Horace Cureton Elementary School, Pala Junior High, James Lick High School, and San Jose State, where she received her undergraduate degree in psychology while working at the Children’s Center in San Jose and volunteering at Agnew’s State Hospital. Lynn earned her master’s in marriage and family counseling from SCU and began her private counseling practice focusing on couples facing infertility issues. She worked with RESOLVE, where she was a past president of the local chapter and a member of the national board. Lynn was a devoted member of Self Realization Fellowship, volunteering countless hours of service in multiple capacities. Her dedication to this organization and its supporters was a profound pleasure for her. Lynn enjoyed trips to the East Coast and made frequent visits to Sea Ranch along the Northern California coastline. An avid hiker, she walked the legs off many friends who joined her on these adventures. She also loved baking cookies with her family during the holidays. Lynn passed on peacefully at home on Feb. 26, 2018, and is survived by her brothers and sister; nephew Jeremy Brokenshire, his wife Melissa, and their children, Savannah, Sierra, and Trinity; her kitties Peanut and Buzzy and tortoise, Tortie; and many friends from different walks of life who have been lucky enough to count Lynn as a friend.
