Linda L. Ryle ’68 was born to Tom and Holly Laubacher in Santa Barbara, California, on Sept. 27, 1946. She was raised in Oxnard, California, where she attended Santa Clara High School. She graduated from SCU, where she met her husband of 48 years, Garrett P. Ryle ’69. She spent her college summers working at Disneyland and later became an airline hostess for Trans World Airlines. Four months into her marriage, Linda’s husband was ordered to Vietnam. To occupy herself, Linda taught grammar school in Oxnard. She was a Sacramento resident for 47 years and a member of Sacred Heart Church. Linda loved musical theatre and she supported local theatre companies. She also loved her family and dedicated herself to her children’s education, enrichment, and spiritual guidance, devoting countless hours accompanying her children and their friends to myriad activities, including baseball, soccer, swimming, tennis, Odyssey of the Mind, Academic Talent Search, Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD), piano, ballet, tap dance, and voice lessons. When her youngest daughter was diagnosed with autism, Linda taught herself everything about the disorder so that she could better help her daughter, becoming a strong advocate for people with autism. She passed away on Nov. 18, 2018, after a brief battle with lung cancer and will be missed terribly by the family, students, and friends she left behind.
