The “Tomato King” was a lucky man—he found love twice. Leonard Goscila ’51 earned his nickname farming tomatoes on his family’s land after serving in the U.S. Army. His work grew into brokering produce under the company name Bay Area Produce. He found love with Carol Jean Eichinger and married her in 1951. They raised four children. Carol died of cancer in 1990. Leonard focused on family, business, and helping his high school alma mater—earning the Bellarmine College Prep “Man of the Year” recognition in 1998. That same year he met Doree Cochran while vacating in Hawaii. They married and grew the family to include another child. The pair spent 21 years together. Leonard died in November 2020.
