Leonard Enos ’59 grew up in Niles, Calif., attended Bellarmine Prep, and Santa Clara University’s engineering and ROTC programs. After graduation, he was commissioned a 2nd lieutenant in the U.S. Army and served in the 554th Engineering Battalion. Upon completion of his military service, Leonard joined Explosive Technology, Inc., in Fairfield, Calif., where he remained until retirement. While at Explosive Tech, Leonard headed a project team that made important and highly visible contributions to the Saturn V rocket program that put men on the moon in the 1960s and 70s. While at a SCU classmate’s wedding, he met LaVonne Fransen. They married in August 1961 and raised three children together. LaVonne died in 2008. Leonard’s pursuits after retiring were woodworking, home improvement, and gardening. His great passion was sharing his Catholic faith through seminars held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Fairfield, and during weekly prayer meetings held at home with his second wife, Barbara. Leonard died March 15, 2024. He is survived by his three children—daughters Laura and JanetMarie (JM) and son Joseph—as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sister Marilyn, nephew James Sampair ’85, his wife, Barbara, and her family.
