Beloved wife and mother Laura Isabella Newell Sylvan ’14 never went a day without sharing her love of people, the community and her own interests. Laura and husband, Kayvan, loved each other dearly and there was nothing left unsaid between the two. In Kayvan’s words, “I loved her deeply, madly and she loved me fiercely.” She also had a love for music that continued throughout her life—she owned a music studio and taught flute and piano for many years. After taking a break for motherhood, she returned to academia at Santa Clara University, where she earned a B.A. in English and German studies. Laura died on Oct. 10, 2021 at the age of 54.
