Kevin Rooney ’72 has earned the title 2015 Santa Claran of the Year by the Alumni Association’s Los Angeles chapter for his dedication to Catholic school education and for putting Santa Clara values into action every day. Since 1980, Rooney has been the athletic director and head varsity football coach at Notre Dame High School, in Sherman Oaks, California. He was named the Schutt Sports and American Football Monthly Magazine West Region Coach of the Year, inducted into the National High School Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame, presented the Gerald R. Ford All American High School Coach Award by the All American Football Foundation, inducted into the California Coaches Association Hall of Fame, and named The California State Coach of the Year by Cal-Hi Sports. Rooney has been recognized as CIF Coach of the Year four times, and has also been named Coach of the Year twice by the Los Angeles Times and the Los Angeles Daily News.
