Kenneth Svilich ’61, MBA ’64 started at Santa Clara as a chemistry major but struggled academically and took a year off. During that time, he enlisted in the Army, served six months on active duty, and joined the California National Guard. He later returned to SCU to earn his bachelor’s in economics and later his MBA. Destiny led him to Arlene Rodgers, and he proposed just two and a half weeks later. Their earlier married days were marked by frequent moves and the births of their two sons before settling on Naples Island. Ken shifted from the garment industry to co-found Sandpiper Properties with Arlene in 1979. Ken died on Mar. 10, 2024.
