1970

After receiving a bachelor’s in psychology from Santa Clara University, Kathleen Mayhew ’70 went on to earn an M.A. in 1973 with a thesis on family dynamics from San Jose State University, where she met her husband, Lew. Along with part-time jobs and selling woven belts at craft fairs, she was the executive director of Project VIA, a non-profit organization for families facing life-threatening illnesses, and owner-operator of a graphic design business, Page Creations. She also taught courses in Modesto Junior College’s human services program on death, dying, cultural concepts, coping, support services, counseling, grief, and bereavement. Kathleen was a lover of books and gardening as they were a source of meditation, focus, and serenity. She also was the owner of Shetland sheepdogs and a barn rescue cat that she loved dearly. After a well-fought battle against ovarian cancer, Kathleen died on October 3, 2022.
