1989

Karen Forbes J.D. ’89 was curious about her familial history. She became interested in genealogy in 1977 and began researching her Forbes ancestors, ultimately tracing 12 generations back to the original immigrant born in Scotland around 1635. Her extensive research culminated in the publication of a 700-page book in 1997. In addition to her genealogical pursuits, Karen practiced family law and real estate law in Maryland until her retirement in 2008. She maintained a wide range of hobbies, including making jewelry, painting, gardening, refurbishing antique furniture, and photography. Karen died on Feb. 9, 2025, and is survived by husband James Deininger ’75.
