Following a full scholarship for football at Santa Clara University, Joseph Vincent “Jumbo” McCargar ’53, M.S. ’68 served in the U.S. Army and also played football for the Army. He returned to SCU for a master’s degree in mechanical engineering. After many years working for Westinghouse Electrical in Sunnyvale, Joe retired and moved to Sonora with his wife, Dorothy, where they were active members of St. Patrick’s Catholic Parish. Among his many hobbies were home improvement projects, auto maintenance, playing video poker machines at the local casinos, tennis, golf and skiing. He died on June 30, 2020, at the age of 88, and is survived by his four children.
