After graduation, varsity basketball captain Joseph Meagher ’63 stuck around campus to coach the first year team before enlisting in the Navy and serving as player-coach of the Navy Sub-Pac. While stationed at Pearl Harbor, Joe met Karen Lavin on a blind date; the two were married for 55 years. Joe’s coaching career took him to Menlo School and College, Cupertino High School, the University of Portland, and St. Martin’s College. He also taught history. Off the court, he dedicated himself to family and friends, including three children. Joe died on Sept. 20, 2022 and is survived by extended family including daughter Maureen Lewison ’95.
