Jose Debasa MBA ’71 was a devout Roman Catholic and the first layperson to lead the financial operations of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. After immigrating to San Jose in the 1960s, he advanced through financial roles at Santa Clara University, becoming vice president of business and finance in 1974. One of his proudest achievements was helping raise funds for the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. Throughout his life, Jose was deeply involved in over 35 boards and organizations spanning religion, charity, business, education, and finance. Jose died on Feb. 26, 2025, and is survived by daughter Marisa Debasa ’95 and was preceded in death by wife Maria Debasa ’80.
