John Virga J.D. ’64 believed everyone was entitled to legal counsel and representation. In his legal career, John represented victims of the a Southern Pacific train bomb blast in Roseville, a member of the Oak Park Four who was charged with the murder of a Sacramento police officer, and three-time world champion boxer Tony “The Tiger” Lopez. He represented Manson Family member Lynnette “Squeaky” Fromme, who was accused of attempting to assassinate President Gerald Ford, becoming the first attorney in U.S. history to take the court testimony of a sitting president. His work was also recognized through the NAACP Appreciation Award and his membership on the American Board of Trial Advocates. John died July 14, 2023.
