Born the sixth of seven children to John and Sue Rankin on October 27, 1955, John “JR” Rankin MBA ’86 spent his childhood in Los Gatos and Saratoga. He attended St. Mary’s grade school and Bellarmine College Preparatory High School, graduating in 1974. He went on to earn his bachelor’s at Chico State University and MBA from SCU. John held cost accounting and financial management positions with Rolm Corporation and Applied Materials. He passed away peacefully on May 1, 2018, at the age of 62 following a courageous battle with stroke-related complications. John is survived by his cherished wife, Terri, who lovingly and unfailingly cared for him throughout his years of illness, his daughter Emily Cannon (Baron) of whom he was exceedingly proud, his grandson Emmett Cannon, and his sisters Maureen Thomas, Meg Noonan (John), Marylou Snowden (Terry), Marilyn Coll (John), and Michelle Stewart (Bill). He was preceded in death by his sister, Marcia Rankin, and his twin granddaughters, Madeline and Margaret Cannon, who are eagerly awaiting the arrival in heaven of their “Papa John.” JR was a beloved uncle to 15 nieces and nephews and a dear cousin to his numerous Brady relatives.
