A true product of Jesuit education, John Nunes ’79 was always a “man for others.” John attended Bellarmine College Prep, earned a degree in biology at Santa Clara, then went to medical school at Georgetown University. He completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology while a commissioned officer in the U.S. Air Force. In his 35 years of clinical practice, he delivered thousands of babies and performed countless lifesaving surgeries. John’s professional ambitions then turned to hospital administration, and he took on the roles of chief safety and quality officer and chief medical officer at St. Charles Health System and HCA Healthcare in Oregon. John also enjoyed mentoring fellow physicians and was an unwavering advocate for patient safety, speaking across the country on the topic. He died Jan. 29, 2024 .
