After graduating, John Melby ’88 became a licensed realtor and mortgage banker; however, he had a passion for food. He later graduated from the CA Culinary Academy in San Francisco from their Food, Hospitality, and Baking Program. John went on to work at Sharon Heights Country Club in Menlo Park, and became Food and Beverage Director at the CA Culinary Academy. He would continue with his passion for food, wine, spirits, and catered special events in the Stockton/Lodi area. John expressed his love for others through his food. John exemplified the Jesuit motto “a man for others” through his welcoming spirit and delicious food. He enjoyed golf with his Santa Clara roommates and fellow ’88 alums, who remained his lifelong friends. John was able to travel in recent years with his longtime loving friend and companion Joyce.
