John Vincent Giacomazzi ’77 went to Jesus and his eternal reward on Oct. 7, 2014. He was 59 years old. John was born in San Jose on Jan. 6, 1955. He graduated from James Lick High School and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Santa Clara University in 1977. John stated when he walked across the stage, "It was the happiest day of my life." He worked for the U. S. Geological Survey, Water Resources Division in Menlo Park and enjoyed scuba diving until he was incapacitated by neuromuscular atrophy, the progressive and debilitating disease that he endured all of his life.

John is survived by an aunt, Esther Long of Parker, Colo., and cousins Laura Long of Sunnyvale, Calif., Richard Long of Cottonwood, Calif., Michael Long of Jacksonville, Fla. and Mark Long of Parker, Colo. He is also survived by his close friend and caretaker Eileen Hansen and his special friend Julia Pezzini.  He was predeceased by his parents, Andrew and Jeanne (Long) Giacomazzi and his brother, Joseph Giacomazzi. John is also predeceased by his two very special canine service dogs "Rather" and "Rio."  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Canine Companions, Santa Rosa, Calif. or Santa Clara University Alumni Family.
