2016

Jenna Lipman ’16 received one of two 2016 Alumni Association Board of Director’s Service Awards, which provides financial support to seniors who are leaving SCU and going directly into a service program or project. Jenna will be spending two years with the Jesuit Volunteer Corps in Belize at a local Jesuit primary school, tutoring in math and reading and co-running an after-school program. She has been a student ambassador since her first year at SCU. She has also gone on three immersion trips through the Ignatian Center–to West Virginia, Nicaragua, and San Jose–where she actually first learned about JVC. Her study abroad trip took her to Delhi, India where she worked on the financial side of a local NGO that served victims of human trafficking and abuse. These experiences guided her toward an interest in economic justice and how she could combine her technical degree in Economics with her passion for the developing world. Grateful for her experiences both in the US and abroad, Jenna suggests, "Do something unique with one of your vacations. Have an opportunity to learn about issues outside of the classroom."
