In 1943, James W. Felt, S.J., Professor Emeritus in Philosophy, entered the Society of Jesus. In 1956, he was ordained. He pronounced his final vows five years later. Fr. Felt joined the Philosophy Department at Santa Clara University in 1965 after completing graduate studies at St. Louis University. While at Santa Clara, his research and teaching interests centered on metaphysics, especially that of St. Thomas Aquinas and Alfred North Whitehead, as well as epistemology and philosophy of science. He held two endowed chairs as the Santa Clara University Jesuit Community Professor and John Nobili, S.J. Professor before retiring in 2006. In retirement, Fr. Felt continued to write and publish books. He died on February 17, 2022.
