James McAteer ’52 served in the Korean War as a draftee in the U.S. Army in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps. He went on to practice law for over 50 years, including as an assistant United States attorney during the Kennedy administration, and worked with several firms before retiring in 2007. An avid tennis player and downhill skier, Jim also found joy in the simple pleasures of gardening and baking pies. Jim was especially devoted to his wife of 47 years, Judy. They had nine children, sixteen grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Jim died on Dec. 26, 2024, and is survived by family, including daughter Mary Jeanne McAteer ’80
