After serving in the Navy, James Heacock ’49earned his mechanical engineering degree from Santa Clara University and began a 32-year career with the California Department of Industrial Health and Safety. Rising through the ranks, James became chief of California Occupational Safety and Health in 1977, guiding a large team with passion and integrity. After retiring in 1981, he enjoyed a fulfilling life at Seal Beach, where he cherished time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and reveled in family travels, especially to Hawaii. James died on Feb. 1, 2022.
