Jaime Saavedra J.D. ’13 joined the San Francisco office of Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton. Saavedra joins the firm as an associate with the Patent Team in the internationally recognized Intellectual Property Department.
Dr. Saavedra focuses his practice on patent prosecution and counseling, due diligence, licensing, and other intellectual property issues related to matters in the health and life sciences.
Before becoming an associate, Dr. Saavedra worked as a law clerk and as a summer associate in 2013 with the firm. Prior to joining the firm, he was a graduate researcher at the University of California, Santa Cruz where he developed new and environmentally friendly methods of reducing a variety of functional groups including nitrile, halide and carbonyl functionalities. Dr. Saavedra has authored and co-authored articles in peer-reviewed journals and has presented his research at several scientific conferences.
Previously, Dr. Saavedra was legal intern in the Munich office of a German intellectual property law firm during the summer of 2012 where he performed legal and organizational tasks in patent litigation, including European and U.S. patent search and interpretation of high technology, chemical and materials patents, as well as research on the proposed European Unitary Patent and Unified Patent Court. During law school, Dr. Saavedra was a Research Editor of the Santa Clara High Technology Law Journal and focused his studies on intellectual property law and related fields.
