A gentleman, scholar, and foremost a family man, Harold Schmitz ’53 died on March 5, 2022. Fondly called Hal and sometimes Happy Hal by close friends and family, he touched many lives. Hal’s greatest joy was spending time with family. He loved watching the children grow and regaling them with many stories of the shenanigans he and his cousin Mel created. Hal was in ROTC and when he was stationed in Hanau, Germany, his wife, Joan, followed him there. He always strived to live his life exemplifying God’s love and was close to the St. Cecilia Catholic Church community. After a transfer to Chicago, Joan and Hal decided to retire to Fort Thomas, Kentucky. Hal is survived by family including daughters Cynthia Beauchamp ’79 and Sharon Healey ’80, grandsons Jonathan Healey ’04 and Jeffrey Healey ’15, niece Jennifer Barret ’96, and sons-in-law Kevin Beauchamp ’79 and Michael Healey ’80.
