Having a remarkable ability to bring laughter and levity to any situation, George Shannon ’59, J.D. ’63 was committed to community service. The eldest of six children, he was raised with a deep sense of hard work and the value of education. George had over four decades of membership in the Lion’s Club and spent countless hours volunteering at local organizations, including the Billy Jones Wildcat Railroad, St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception School, and the Novitiate of the Sacred Heart, where he assisted elderly Jesuit priests. In 2016, George was honored by the U.S. Congress with a certificate of recognition for his outstanding service to the community as the Los Gatos and Monte Sereno Senior of Distinction. He was a proud Bronco and thrilled at his children, George ’82, Christine ’92, and James Shannon ’96, and grandson David Shannon ’21, continuing his educational legacy. George died on Oct. 7, 2024.
