After being drafted into the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, George Edward Schauf ’50 studied engineering at Santa Clara University before earning a master’s degree in psychology from San Jose State University. He went on to earn an M.D. from St. Louis University in 1957. George practiced family medicine for 53 years in Riverbank, Calif., dedicating much of his medical career to a sub-specialty in bariatrics. He authored several books on the topic: Think, Eat, and Lose Fat (1970), Think Thin (1976), and The Calorie Conspiracy (2010). George died October 22, 2020 and is survived by his wife of 34 years, Eleanor, seven children, including Veronica ’10, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
