Gary Berg ’99 was named Campbell’s new police chief. Berg began his career with Campbell’s police department in 1994 as a police explorer before becoming a community services officer in 1996. By 2000, Berg was hired as a police officer and was promoted to captain in 2014. As a captain, he oversaw all three divisions: field services, special enforcement, and support services. While overseeing these divisions, he helped develop the department’s surveillance camera registry and smartphone app, which allows bicycles with GPS technology to be strategically placed throughout the city tempting thieves. He also helped develop the police department’s social media presence as the PIO and was a field training officer to a SWAT team leader during his tenure.
