As an electrical and computer engineer in the early days of Silicon Valley, Frederick Wingfield Clegg enjoyed a long career that spanned both academia—as a professor at Santa Clara University, San Jose State University, and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo—and the corporate world, working at Valley stalwarts such as Hewlett Packard and Sun Microsystems.
An avid pilot, he worked as a Certified Flight Instructor before and after retirement. Clegg was also a jazz music fan, a prankster, and a life-long lecture attendee. He died on December 25, 2021, survived by his wife, sister, two children, and three grandsons.
