On March 25, Fr. Francis Smith, S.J. ’56 M. Div. ’70, retired SCU faculty member in the Department of Religious Studies, died at the age of 86. He is survived by brother Mike Smith ’54, nephew, nieces, including Monica Wahler ’91, and nine grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Fr. Smith graduated from Santa Clara in 1956 and entered the Jesuits in 1960. He returned to Santa Clara in 1974 as a member of the Religious Studies faculty, served as rector of the Jesuit Community from 1976 to 1982 and on the Board of Trustees, and, until recently, was active in teaching in the Graduate Program in Pastoral Ministries.
