Erlinda Galinato Banzon M.A. ’77 was born in Binalonan, Pangasinan, in the Philippines on Sept. 24, 1947, to Protacio S. Galinato and Remedios D. Galinato. She immigrated to the United States in the early 70s and lived in East Palo Alto until 2011, when she moved to live near her children in Moss Beach and later Walnut Creek. Erlinda passed away peacefully on Nov. 2, 2017, surrounded by family. She is survived by her two sisters, Ely Flora and Eva Betita, and brother, Carlos Galinato; daughter Christine Banzon and son-in-law Bill Ruha, daughter Joy Dardenelle and son-in-law Shawn Dardenelle, and son Charles Banzon; grandchildren Elena Dardenelle, Leo Dardenelle, and Audrey Ruha; and a large extended family. She was preceded in death by her former husband, Victor Banzon, and her sister, Fe Ferguson. She will be remembered for her home in East Palo Alto, often referred to as “Ellis Island” by the many family and friends who lived there in times of need, for her unwavering faith and bravery, and of course, for her holiday cranberry bread.
