Eric Pressberg ’10 was nominated a Peace Corps Malaria Hero. This competition honored individuals from across Africa that consistently went above and beyond the call of duty to fight malaria. Pressberg had been living and working in Zambia since 2012 as a Peace Corps volunteer, serving as an aquaculture specialist being active in his community.
In addition to his primary project of working to build fish ponds and encourage aquaculture to ensure food security, Pressberg worked with a local community health worker to interview individuals and gather data on mosquito net usage. Upon discovering that mosquito nets were often misused, they created a poster to promote proper usage. Over several weeks they toured the community, photo-documenting cases of proper usage. The best photos were turned into a poster that now hangs prominently at the local clinic.
Pressberg is now a graduate student at the LBJ School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin.
