Emily Catherine (Jones) Miner ’92 died Dec. 14, 2011, at her home in Angwin, Calif. Emily (nee Jones) was born on Dec. 22, 1969, and grew up in Minneapolis. She graduated from the Blake Schools before attending Santa Clara University. After graduation, she moved to the Napa Valley and started a career in the wine business, where she met her husband, Dave Miner. They were married in 1999 and started their own label, Miner Family Winery, that same year. During her nearly four-year illness, she became a spokesperson in the fight against lung cancer. In 2009, she was the honoree of the V Foundation Wine Dinner in Napa, during which more than $700,000 was raised in the Emily Miner Fund for Lung Cancer Research. In addition to her husband, Emily is survived by two daughters, Sofie and Calla; her parents, Jane and Reed Mackenzie of Chaska, Minn.; her sisters, Rachael (Dan) Mackenzie-Olson of Plymouth, Minn., Joanna (Chris) Daly of San Antonio, Texas; her father-in-law, Ed Miner; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ed and Sumaya Miner; her best friend, Kerry Jo Kilcoyne-Henry ’92; plus her six nieces and nephews and numerous cousins, aunts and uncles, all of whom will miss her very much. Emily was loved and respected by everyone she met.
