Ellen Thérèse Scudder ’73 of San Francisco was the beloved daughter of the late John and Frances Scudder. A graduate of Mercy High School class of ’69 and Santa Clara University, Ellen went on to earn a master’s from Johns Hopkins School for Advanced International Studies, class of ’75, before the onset of mental illness that shadowed most of her life. Ellen’s arch sense of humor and great love for her family shone through the long torment of her illness. She appreciated her caregivers and developed warm friendships with her fellow residents. Ellen was an avid writer and found expression in abstract drawing. She enjoyed lattes, smoothies, walks by the San Francisco Bay, and lunches at Lucky Chen. She passed away on Oct. 20, 2017, in Antioch. She is survived by her loving siblings, Betty Garthwaite, Rose Curry, John Scudder, Paula Behmke, William Scudder, and Sara Baldwin and their spouses, including David Garthwaite; 14 nieces and nephews, one grand-nephew, and many cousins, including Patricia Doherty Cole.
