Duane Peterson ’73 was born in Duluth, Minnesota, on July 31, 1937, to Walter and May Peterson. After graduating from East High School, Duane attended the University of Minnesota, Duluth, and North Park College in Chicago, Illinois, from which he graduated in 1960 with a double major of business and mathematics. Duane moved to Sacramento, California, in 1960 and started working at Aerojet. He attended California State University, Sacramento, taking business and education classes. Duane began teaching in the San Juan Unified School District in 1964. He later received his M.S. in mathematics from SCU. Duane taught mathematics at Del Campo High School and was the mathematics department chair. He retired from the San Juan District in 1998 but continued to teach at Sacramento City College for several years. Duane started to work on staff at Valley Hi Covenant Church (now Common Ground, a Covenant Church) on a volunteer basis, and continued working there until 2015. He also enjoyed working for the County of Sacramento Elections, where he helped teach classes to precinct workers prior to each election. He passed away on Dec. 29, 2017.
