Dr. Kevin Barr ’66 passed way on November 19, 2014 at his home in Boise, Idaho after a long struggle with cancer.  Kevin was born in London and spent his infant nights sleeping in the London Underground to avoid the nightly bombings. At age 3, his parents, William and Marion Barr, took Kevin to Australia where they lived until they moved to California in 1953. Kevin graduated from Santa Clara University and earned a PhD in Physics from the University of Kansas. He worked as an Aerospace Scientist for 32 years in Los Angeles, Chicago, and Boise before retiring in 2006.

He had a lifelong love of all of God’s creatures. He volunteered for many years at Zoo Boise and was honored to be a member of the Friends of Zoo Boise Board of Directors. He traveled over the world for many years but had a special affection for Africa where he went many times for photographic safaris. He was a proud Irish citizen and visited Ireland and his Irish relatives at least once a year for the last twenty-five years.

He was known in the neighborhood as Snake Man because he loved to take his snakes for walks. He was fascinated by the universe. He could talk to a child or an adult about the smallest particle or the largest star and everything in between. He lived in a different plane from most of us – he was a genius.

Kevin is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Mary Pat; and by four younger siblings: Brian Barr ’67, Michael, Maria, and Jeanette, whom Kevin claimed to have raised.
