1948

In five decades of service to the city of Santa Clara, Donald Von Raesfeld Sr. ’48 left a legacy. As city manager in the early 1960s, Don was instrumental in developing the city’s municipal electric utility. To this day, the lower utility rates enjoyed by Santa Clara residents are the result. He was humbled and proud when the city dedicated and named the new state-of-the-art turbine power plant in Santa Clara “The Don Von Raesfeld Power Plant.” He was one of the most influential city managers in Bay Area history. Don died April 9 and is survived by his family, including a daughter Donna Howell ’71, grandson Kyle Von Raesfeld ’05, and granddaughter Kendra Von Raesfled ’03.
