1961

As a competitive swimmer, Dominic Sposeto J.D. ’61 traversed 56 miles of Lake Tahoe in 49-degree water for over 24 hours. At 22, he went blind due to a congenital condition and a diving injury. But that didn’t stop him. He graduated from SCU Law School in 1961 and passed the California State Bar in 1962. As a lawyer, he spent six years building up Santa Clara County’s first Legal Aid and Public Defenders Office. He argued a landmark case in California’s Supreme Court that required police to knock and identify themselves before conducting searches. Dominic was a devout Catholic who was committed to his family. He died May 20, 2022, survived by his wife, two sons, and five stepchildren.
