Derek Chien JD/MBA ’10 has joined Hoge Fenton Jones & Appel, a leading Northern California law firm. Chien is a new admittee to the California bar and is assigned to the firm’s Intellectual Property and Corporate practice teams. His primary areas of focus are trademark and copyright prosecution and USPTO litigation, helping to manage significant IP portfolios for several of the firm’s well known global clients. He also is involved in general corporate work, including mergers & acquisitions and the formation and dissolution of nonprofit organizations. Derek is fluent in Cantonese and speaks basic Mandarin and Spanish. Derek earned his dual J.D./MBA at Santa Clara University School of Law and did his undergraduate work at the University of Texas. While at Santa Clara, Derek served as editor of the highly regarded Santa Clara University Computer and High Tech Law Journal, earning the honor of Best Articles Editor. Before joining Hoge Fenton, he clerked in the Corporate & Securities Department at Oracle Corporation. Chien remarked, “I am thrilled to be a part of the family at Hoge Fenton.
