David Joseph Toomey Jr. ’54 was born to David Joseph and Catherine Creegan Toomey on March 1, 1933, in Visalia, California. He attended schools in Visalia and graduated from SCU. Upon graduation, he was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Army. After serving his country, Dave returned to Visalia and began his career on the family farm. He married Nancy Toomey, and together they had five children. He was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Following many years of farming, Dave retired to the Central Coast, where he married Faye Durant Toomey and became a loving stepfather to her three children. He passed away peacefully at his home on Dec. 8, 2018, in San Luis Obispo, California. Dave is survived by his loving wife, Faye; two brothers, Michael (Sally) and Pete (Tish); children Vickie Main ’81 (Gary), Carrie Toomey ’81, Kelly Toomey (Regina), Boo Toomey Morris (John), KC Toomey (Jennifer), Jody Nyberg (Jim), Tom Durant (Kandi), and Mike Durant (Roxanne); 15 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Farmer Dave will also be missed by his many friends.
