Born into a military family, David Conklin ’75 had a childhood filled with travel. In criss-crossing the world, Dave nurtured a deep curiosity and love of learning that ultimately led him to earn a Ph.D. from Oregon State University and pursue a career as a scholar. For 30 years, Dave was married to Carol Sweeney, united by their mutual love of books, animals, nature, and thoughtful conversation, and was stepfather to her three children. Dave spent a lot of time running, not just for exercise but for the sheer joy of moving his body and the camaraderie of his running group. The only thing that rivaled his passion for the outdoors was his love of books. The voracious reader died on Feb. 25, 2025.
