Damian Gerard Barnes ’97 teaches English at Bishop O’Dowd High School in Oakland. A native of Sacramento, Calif., Damian most recently taught at Our Lady of Mercy School in Daly City, while completing his Master in English (The Writer’s Craft Program) from Holy Names University. Previously, Damian was a member of the Jesuit Volunteer Corps and worked as a community organizer in Brooklyn, N.Y., establishing youth programs from Coney Island to Crown Heights. He has also worked as a youth minister and taught at Catholic elementary and middle high schools in the Bay Area. Damian says the rhythms of teaching and learning are deeply entrenched in his soul. “I love working with young people on the discovery of new material, the practicing and expansion of skills and the reflection on life to find personal meaning and direction,” he said. Recently married with quite a few Bronco Alums in attendance, Damian enjoys writing, travel, friends and family.
