Constance (Connie) McGrath M.A. ’83 was born in Hinsdale, Illinois, the third of five daughters, to Leo and Vera Boldenweck. After graduating from Notre Dame University in Belmont, Connie married and began her first career, raising six children with Jerry McGrath ’56. When her children were grown, and as a single woman, she went back to school and earned a master’s degree in marriage and family counseling from SCU. With her degree in hand, Connie launched her second career as a licensed marriage and family therapist. She helped many children in her private practice and as a consultant for elementary schools. Connie passed away peacefully on Jan. 29, 2018. She is survived by her children Wendy (Peary), Joe (Sue), Megan (Sam), Jim McGrath ’87 (Lori), and Sheila McGrath ’89 (Chuck); sisters Judy, Robin, Kevil, and Wendy; ten grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her youngest daughter Kathleen ’90 (Mike) and husband Jerry. Connie will be remembered as a smart, kind, and thoughtful woman who loved to read in the garden, or wherever she could find a quiet spot, and who was there to lend an ear if you needed advice. She will be greatly missed.
