In March, the property management service OneRent—founded by Rico Mok ’15, Greg Toschi ’16, Arman Dezfuli-Arjomandi ’15, and Chuck Hattemer ’16—closed a $4M Series A round of funding from Renren, a leading investor of early-stage startups. OneRent seeks to set new standards in the rental market by simplifying the processes between renters and owners. It manages 615 properties for more than 500 real estate investors and property owners.
An introduction to Renren was made possible through investor and entrepreneur Matt Murphy ’02. The financing will support the company’s expansion in new territory; in February, OneRent launched in Seattle.
Dean Ku MA ’09, assistant director and an alumni counselor at the Career Center, introduced the founders to initial seed investors. Says Hattemer, "I think this shows how reliable the SCU network is. And ultimately it is what brought all of us together to build OneRent—around 80 percent of our employees are current or former SCU students."
