Carolyn Rebecca (Gray) Stewart ’74 passed November 29, 2010. Carolyn was born on November 7, 1951 in St. Joseph, LA to the late Arnola and Joseph Gray. She spent her childhood in Los Angeles and graduated from Los Angeles High School with honors in June 1969, earning her an academic scholarship to attend Santa Clara University. Carolyn received her Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degrees in Social Work from California State University of Sacramento. Prior to receiving degrees from Sac State, Carolyn held the prestigious position of Professor de Language at Prince Albert I High School in Monte-arlo, Monaco from 1977-1981. Carolyn worked at Kaiser Permanente Hospital (Sacramento) for 28 years before retiring in 2009. She also taught part-time at her alma mater, Sacramento State University. After Carolyn retired from Kaiser, she continued as a Professor at Sacramento State University where she taught in the Social Work Masters Program. Carolyn recently earned her second Master’s Degree in Health Care Administration from University of Phoenix in June 2010. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 25 years, Michael Stewart, Sr ’73; three children: sons, Louis Joseph Stewart ’93 (Elk Grove, CA) and Michael (Yogi) Curtis Stewart, Jr. (Windermere, FL); and her daughter and best friend, Samantha Michelle Stewart (New York, NY); two daughters-in-law, Kerri and Nicole Stewart; five grandchildren, Derrius, Maliyah, Miles, Dharon and Sean. She also leaves behind three sisters, Paulette Agamegwa, Joette Gray and Phyllis Gray; seven nieces and seven nephews and a host of other relatives, ”adopted” children, extended family and many, many friends including her Kaiser Hospital family and Sacramento State University students and faculty.
