Carolyn Chu ’10 serving with the Jesuit Volunteer Corps Northwest in Gresham, Ore., for the second year at JOIN. She is working as a House Coordinator at a day center for homelessness. She provides basic services such as mail, laundry vouchers, and showers through a barter system: Clients contribute to the maintenance and community of JOIN to gain barter points, which they can use to trade for services. She also spends time directing people to other social services throughout the city of Portland.
