1984

Carole Proctor M.A. ’84, a devoted Sister of Notre Dame for 71 years, lived a life of deep faith, compassion, and service. After entering the community in 1954, Carole became a gifted teacher whose greatest joy was working with multicultural inner-city students, weaving lessons of justice and peace into her classrooms. Later, her ministry expanded to counseling, which took her to Nairobi, Kenya, where she spent 14 years serving the poor and mentoring young sisters. Returning to California, Carole continued her work as a parish counselor. She died on July 24, 2025. She is survived by nephew Mark Cairns ’76, and was predeceased by her sister, Phyllis Cairns ’73.
