Before he was a star, Bob Newhart Hon. ’00 was a Jesuit-educated aspiring accountant. After serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, Bob dabbled in accounting and advertising before discovering his knack for show business. His 1960 album, “The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart,” became the first comedy album ever to hit the top spot on the Billboard charts. Over the next several decades, Bob found success on the screen, most notably on The Bob Newhart Show. He also appeared in TV shows like The Simpsons and The Big Bang Theory and movies like Catch-22 and Elf. Married for 60 years, Bob and his wife, Ginnie, raised four children. Bob celebrated the college graduation of his last child, Courtney Albertini ’00, by delivering the commencement speech at Santa Clara University. He died July 18, 2024, at the age of 94.
