Bernice Weatherholt was the first woman hired at Santa Clara University. She headed up the campus law library and taught legal research there from 1948 to 1953. During her time at SCU, Bernice worked with Law Dean Edwin Owens, Edward Boland, S.J., and Fr. William Gianera, for whom the Gianera Society is named, honoring SCU alumni whose classes graduated 50+ years ago. Bernice is featured in the book, From Promise to Prominence, the thorough history of the Santa Clara University School of Law written by Mark Thomas J.D. ’56. Bernice died on September 5, 2022. She is survived by her three children, including Stephen Weatherholt MBA ’75, along with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
