Bernard Thomas Hofmann ’56 was the first of three generations of Broncos: daughter Barbara Hofmann Evans ’82 and grandson Matthew Evans ’14 followed in his SCU footsteps. Bernie was a track star at Bellarmine College Prep, where he was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame. After serving in the Korean War with the U.S. Air Force, Bernie earned a degree in history at Santa Clara, followed by a teaching credential and master’s degree in education from Stanford. He married Connie in 1957, the same year he began a 35-year career teaching world history at Washington High School in Fremont, Calif. He and Connie raised four children and enjoyed traveling to the places they taught, including China, Egypt, Turkey, Indoesia, and Nepal. Bernie died December 22, 2022.
